Currently, three different kinds of small caliber ammunition are in use. Ammunition designed expressly for use in training is not permitted to be used in actual warfare. Ammunition that is designed for training is dual-purpose and can be utilized to meet both training and operational needs. War reserve ammo is overmatched ammunition that sustains crew-served and individual weapons during combat operations (i.e., blank, dummy-inert, close combat man marking and short-range training ammunition). Ammunition for small arms refers to both the entire round or cartridge and each of its individual parts, such as the projectiles or bullets used in small guns as well as their casings, primers, caps, and propellants.
