Jean-Pierre Monier is the third generation of his family to be farming above the village of Saint Désirat in the northern Rhône appellation of Saint Joseph. Wine has only ever been one part of his farm's production. Apricot orchards complement the vineyards, and everything is farmed biodynamically. Heavily influenced by German biodynamic guru Maria Thun, Jean-Pierre earned official certification in 2006. Domaine Monier Perréol is a bijoux estate if ever there was one, with just 5 hectares of vines. The Saint Joseph is 100% Syrah from 30 year old vines and aged in seasoned oak for a year. Full of smooth, rich, velvety black fruit, this is a truly delicious wine. Decant for an hour and serve with beef and red wine casserole or lamb chops.
