If your image of fine Australian Shiraz is of the super ripe Barossa variety, you have yet to try the best of North East Victoria. Here in the high country around Beechworth, vineyards are planted at between 300 and 700 metres above sea level and the wine style has more in common with northern Rhône Syrah. Giaconda's Rick Kinzbrunner studied at Davis in California, and has worked at Stag's Leap and other world famous estates. With just 4 hectares under vine and annual production across the range a mere 2,500 bottles, his wines are extremely rare. Lisa Perrotti-Brown on eRobertParker.com praises this wine's "extraordinary nose" and "exquisite elegance". Decant and serve in fine stemware with classic haute cuisine such as Chateaubriand steak.
