The second trimester of pregnancy spans from the 13th to the 28th week—that is, from 3 to 6 months. In a normal pregnancy, this phase is often called the "honeymoon period." Why is that? Because many of the uncomfortable symptoms from the first trimester, like morning sickness, begin to ease, the mother starts to feel physically and emotionally better. Sleep and Body Position: ✔ One important thing to note is sleeping posture. It is not advisable to sleep on your back during this stage. Why? Because the baby and uterus are now growing, lying flat on the back can compress major blood vessels, leading to low blood pressure (hypotension) for the mother. ✔ It’s recommended to sleep on your side, ideally the left side. ✔ Even at home, try to rest in comfortable, side-lying positions that support good circulation. Nutrition and Hydration: ✔ It’s great if you’re already including leafy greens, vegetables, and fruits in your daily meals. These are excellent for both mother and baby. ✔ Drinking 3 to 4 liters of water daily is very important. Muscle Cramps: ✔ Many pregnant women experience leg cramps, especially at night. These can be reduced or avoided with: ✔ Proper diet ✔ Adequate water intake ✔ Stretching or mild exercise With these good habits, most discomforts can be managed or avoided during the second trimester.
