This collection includes: Kerrygold Dubliner: Dubliner was first described to us as a mixture between Cheddar and Parmigiano Reggiano. This description is quite accurate. Dubliner tastes of a mature Cheddar with the sweet aftertaste of Reggiano. Wexford Mature Cheddar: Made just south of Dublin, Wexford Cheddar is a mature, twelve-month cheddar perfect for serving with brown bread and chutney. Enjoy Wexford Mature Cheddar with a pint of good Irish ale, or a crisp glass of white wine. Cashel Blue: Louis and Jane Grubb's Beechmount Farm makes this superb cheese in the rolling hills of Tipperary in Ireland. Cashel Blue is a young, somewhat mild and extra creamy cheese that, unlike inferior blues, is not too salty. It is a fabulous alternative to Gorgonzola or Stilton. Follain Irish Jam: 'Follain' is the Gaelic word meaning 'all that is wholesome, healthy and natural'. A one-hundred-year-old recipe passed on through several generations was the secret of Follain's first product, a chunky grapefruit marmalade. From there, they added more flavors and varieties. Gift of Gab Tea: Traditional Irish tea guranteed to give you the Blarney. Irish Cream Crackers: Made with all-natural ingredients; free of artificial coloring, flavors or preservatives, this crispy, creamy cracker is found in most British kitchens. Bewley's Irish Creme Coffee: Bewley's ground Arabica coffee is flavored with another Dublin specialty, Irish Crème, which gives it a lovely aroma and flavor. Shortbread Petticoat Tails: This shortbread is based on an age-old recipe passed down by generations. It contains the simplest yet finest ingredients, blended and baked to delicious perfection. This collection is filled with Irish goodies to please any pallate. NOTE: Due to seasonality some items may need to be substituted for product of equal or greater value. Set includes: Kerrygold Dubliner (approx 8 oz), Wexford Mature Cheddar (approx 8 oz), Cashel Blue (approx 8 oz), Follain Irish Jam (13 oz), Gift of Gab Tea (1.1 oz), Irish Cream Crackers (7.1 o

This collection includes: Red Wine Farmer Cheese by Affineur WaloRed Wine Farmer Cheese by Affineur Walo: This cheese is the byproduct of two traditional farmhouse activities: turning excess milk into cheese and fermenting grapes into wine for the home. Red Wine Farmer Cheese by Affineur Walo is a typical Swiss semi-hard cheese, similar to Gruyere or Appenzeller. It has a firm, sliceable body that is coated in a natural, pebbly rind. Quicke's Oak Smoked Mature Farmhouse Cheddar: Quicke's Cheeses have an intensity on first taste, which transforms into a full-mouthed long flavor with nutty, grassy hints and a firm, craggy texture. This mature cheese is then smoked, using oak chips from the trees on their farm. The smoking process adds a new level of flavor to this pasteurized cheddar, and gives an attractive deep red color to the cheese. Cahill's Farm Cheddar- Whiskey: A tangy semi-soft cheddar made from pasteurized cow's milk and vegetable rennet, spiked with whiskey. Hushallsost (Swedish Farmer's Cheese): Hushållsost, a top-selling cheese made by Scandic of Sweden, is a staple on the Swedish farmer's breakfast table. The name of this semi-soft, mild cheese means 'household cheese' in Swedish. It slices and melts well, making it a perfect candidate for sandwiches, gourmet pizzas, and casseroles. Farmer Gouda Cured: Slotted between with our young Farmer Gouda and the Extra Aged classic is Cured Gouda. Aged for six months, it has more zip and less creaminess than the young Gouda and more cream and less zip than the Extra Aged. Toast for Cheese by the Fine Cheese Co.: 'Toast' is oh so thin, light and crisp, but what makes it unique is that around 60-percent of the cracker is composed of fruits, nuts and seeds. Making it oh so fruity, oh so nutty and oh so - well 'seedy' This collection includes European cheeses hand picked by our experts. NOTE: Due to seasonality some items may need to be substituted for product of equal or greater value. Set includes: Red Wine Farmer Cheese by Affineur Walo (approx. 8 o

Perfect for snacking, these 100-percent Vermont-made products will be sure to please. Pour the beers and wine at your next tailgate and munch on these cheeses as you cheer on your favorite team! Or serve this bundle at your next party for the perfect hors d'oeuvre. State of origin: Vermont Set includes: 12 ounces scamorza, 8 ounces cheddar bites, 8 ounces smoked mozzarella Brand: Maplebrook Farm Container: Plastic cup, hand-wrapped Weight: 1.5 pounds This Purveyor's Story: In 2003, while visiting Manchester, Vermont, Johann Englert had a flash-back to her college years. A cluster of fresh mozzarella balls sitting on the counter of an Italian specialty shop reminded her of a groceria she and her mother had visited while traveling in Italy. These cheese artisans produced genuine, Old World mozzarella. Johann could not find that level of quality in Boston and bought 20 balls of mozzarella on the spot. She asked Mike Scheps, the owner's son and third generation cheesemaker, if he would be able to supply her with small quantities. Little did they know, a business was born. After sampling those 20 balls, 5 out of 6 gourmet shops in Boston wanted more of this genuine mozzarella. Johann and Mike were onto something. Business boomed as the operation moved from a kitchen to a small store to the purchase of a building. They developed an apprenticeship program to teach new employees the art of making perfect mozzarella. The program started with 3 local Vermonters and has grown to include 20 employees who are making small batches of cheese and wrapping them by hand every day of the week. This product is part of our 'Farmers Market'. Due to the perishable nature of this artisanal product, returns cannot be accepted.

Pests of Barns and Livestock - XII. Insects and Diseases of Trees and Forests -Bibliography -Foreword - To provide a reasonably comprehensive guide to agricultural pests and their control? we attempt to briefly describe the most important pests and agricultural products. In describing the control for each crop, we try to provide you with some information to aid your understanding of both the specific problem and its relation to other crops and pests. Through this understanding, the first stage in the intelligent application of control procedures is achieved. Thus, an over application of pesticides to overcome the. effect of unknowingly harboring a pest reservoir in or at the edge of the field/yard can be avoided. The second stage of intelligent (safe, economic) pest control is gained through thorough familiarity with the use of the chosen method of pest control. The effort expended by academic, industrial, and governmental experts in determining the best dosage levels and methods of application is wasted unless the product label is read and followed. Your interest, hopefully aroused by our work, can be further developed by contacting the appropriate experts in government, academia, or industry. To aid you in this activity, we try to provide references in each section. Finally, this effort is dedicated, with yours, to the production and consumption of agricultural products of the best quality.

Across Australia, woodlands are increasingly being planted on formerly cleared or semi-cleared land. Such revegetation efforts can improve biodiversity of farm wildlife, enhance aesthetics of the landscape and even boost farm production. Planting for Wildlife provides the latest information on restoring woodlands, with particular emphasis on plantings as habitat for wildlife. Key topics include why it is important to revegetate, where to plant, how to prepare a site, how to maintain and manage plantings, and how they change over time. The authors focus on the south-eastern grazing region where domestic livestock grazing and/or cropping have been prominent forms of land use. These agricultural landscapes have suffered widespread land degradation and significant losses of biodiversity. Revegetation is a vital step towards solving these problems. The book includes high-quality colour photographs to support the themes discussed. It is ideal for natural resource managers; field staff from state and federal government agencies; landholders; hobby farmers; vineyard owners; naturalists interested in birds, conservation and revegetation; as well as policy makers in regional, state and federal government.

Wine has held its place for centuries at the heart of social and cultural life in western Europe. This book explains how and why this came about, providing a thematic history of wine and the wine trade in Europe in the middle ages from c.1000 to c.1500.Wine was one of the earliest commodities to be traded across the whole of western Europe. Because of its commercial importance, more is probably known about the way viticulture was undertaken and wine itself was made, than the farming methods used with most other agricultural products at the time. Susan Rose addresses questions such as: Where were vines grown at this time How was wine made and stored Were there acknowledged distinctions in quality How did traders operate What were the social customs associated with wine drinking? What view was taken by moralists? How important was its association with Christian ritual? Did Islamic prohibitions on alcohol affect the wine trade? What other functions did wine have?

There's more to American cheese than tangerine orange or white bricks. In It's Not You, It's Brie, cheese expert Kirstin Jackson tells the whole cheese story. Through fifty American cheese profiles, she takes us "backstage" into underground caves, into funky scents and traditions that link today's cheese makers to American history. You'll meet the people who dedicate their lives to artisan cheese-from those who run generations-old family farms to others who ditched their day job to start a dairy. Jackson groups the cheeses into sixteen styles ranging from American Originals to Mixed Milk, explaining how each one's unique flavors, appearance, and production practices have come to define its style. Featured cheeses include Queso Oaxaqueño, a Mexican-style cheese hand-stretched in California; Scholten Weybridge, a double-crème made in Vermont from the milk of a rare Dutch Belted cow; and River's Edge Mayor of Nye Beach, a funky washed-rind goat's milk that knocks its French rivals out of the water. Beer, wine, and food pairing suggestions round out each profile, along with recipes that use every cheese style in refreshing new ways, from Gouda Almond Toffee to Landaff and Celery Root Beer Soup.

SOIL: beneath our feet / food and fiber / ashes to ashes, dust to dust / dirt! Soil has been called the final frontier of environmental research. The critical role of soil in biogeochemical processes is tied to its properties and place-porous, structured, and spatially variable, it serves as a conduit, buffer, and transformer of water, solutes and gases. Yet what is complex, life-giving, and sacred to some, is ordinary, even ugly, to others. This is the enigma that is soil. Soil and Culture explores the perception of soil in ancient, traditional, and modern societies. It looks at the visual arts (painting, textiles, sculpture, architecture, film, comics and stamps), prose & poetry, religion, philosophy, anthropology, archaeology, wine production, health & diet, and disease & warfare. Soil and Culture explores high culture and popular culture-from the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch to the films of Steve McQueen. It looks at ancient societies and contemporary artists. Contributors from a variety of disciplines delve into the mind of Carl Jung and the bellies of soil eaters, and explore Chinese paintings, African mud cloths, Mayan rituals, Japanese films, French comic strips, and Russian poetry..

The reason for reissuing this book is because it is Jane Grigson's celebration of the seasons and the foods they bring and seasonality is now the top priority of all those who take their eating and cooking seriously. She says in the Introduction to the original edition published in 1971, "…I feel that delight lies in the seasons and what they bring us…the strawberries that come in May and June straight from the fields, the asparagus of a special occasion, kippers from Craster in July and August, the first lamb of the year from Wales, in October the freshest walnuts from France where they are eaten with new cloudy wine. This is good food….The encouragement of fine food is not greed or gourmandise; it can be seen as an aspect of the anti-pollution movement in that it indicates concern for the quality of environment. This is not the limited concern of a few cranks. Small and medium-sized firms, feeling unable to compete with the cheap products of the giants, turn to producing better food….People in many parts of the country run restaurants specializing in locally produced food, salmon from the Tamar, laver and sewin from the Welsh sea, snails from the Mendips, venison from the moors of Inverness. I notice in the grocers' shops in our small town …the prominence given to eggs direct from the farm." How prophetic she was when she pointed out to us the importance of locally-produced, fresh food and she wrote those words 35 years ago! The book is divided into sections covering Fish kippers, lobster, mussels and scallops, trout; Meat and Game meat pies, salting meat, snails, sweetbreads, rabbit and hare, pigeon, venison; Vegetables asparagus, carrots, celery, chicory, haricot beans, leeks, mushrooms, parsley, parsnips, peas, spinach, tomatoes; Fruit apple and quince, gooseberries, lemons, prunes, strawberries, walnuts. And importantly the book contains the recipe for her famous curried parsnip soup.

Thousands of years before Hendrik Hudson sailed his Half Moon up to modern day Albany in 1609, the glaciers that once blanketed the Hudson Valley retreated to the Arctic. What the ice left in its wake was a soil so rich that, in global satellite images taken today, the trench of its path still shows up as a jet black streak. Lured by this soils fertility came the family farmers of the Hudson Valley, who, over time, learned to glean the finest products that the land could provide. Julius, Please Get Back In The Car!A month after Hitler invaded Poland in 1939 Benny checked in as the first of two sons born to Julius and Eleanor Wade. Eleanor was beautiful and bright while Julius was talented, handsome, and full of life. Their second son, Toodly, was born in 1943. A picture taken of Julius at age 21 showed a young man in control of his world who might have stepped from the pages of The Great Gatsby. While World War II was raging in Europe and the Pacific the Wade family experienced a serene existence on the family farm in rural South Georgia. The turmoil of war seemed far away except when word was received from family or friends in military service or when the family gathered with neighbors at Mr. Hollum Smith's house to search the azure skies for German planes. Fleeting fear surfaced on occasion at night while visiting his Grandmother in Cordele when Benny experienced all the lights in the city going dark ostensibly as a means to forestall a possible attack by German war planes. For his first six years Benny enjoyed an idyllic time of agrarian exploration and wonder as he roamed freely in the fields and woods of his Daddy's farm. His parents doted on their two sons and each day brought forth an exciting adventure for two preschoolers. Following the close of World War II and with the resumption of commercial automobile production Julius resumed his previous occupation of automobile salesman where bolstered by the post war prosperity of the economy he became super successful. In addition he was exceedingly kind to his wife and children and life was good. The years between 1946-51 are nostalgically recalled as the days of wine and roses but they were not to last. The rose petals faded seemingly overnight. The romance of moderate wine tasting was transformed into a nightly ritual of a steadily escalating consumption of any type alcoholic beverage available. Julius, the successful businessman and loving family provider
