Ever since hearing a restaurateur describe himself as a "keeper of the history," authors Debbie Nunley and Karen Jane Elliott have been on a quest to find other kindred spirits who share their passion for excellent dining and historic preservation. Tradition-rich Maryland provided them many opportunities to visit restaurants where the scent of yesteryear lingers in the air. At the Reynolds Tavern and Tea Room in Annapolis, they ate in a structure formerly known as The Beaver and Lacd Hat, where customers could take a meal, play cards, stable their horses, and make purchases ranging from hats to dry goods to theater tickets. While visiting The Milton Inn in Sparks, they sampled desserts in a former school boasting an infamous graduate-John Wilkes Booth. At Gabriels Inn in Ijamsville, Debbie enjoyed a French Provincial feast near where residents once witnessed Americas first railroad trip-four rail cars pulled by horses between Baltimore and Frederick. Inside John Hagans Tavern in Braddock Heights, Karen dined sumptuously at the place locals once came to "fight chickens, drink bad whiskey, and black each others eyes," in the words of one long-ago servant. Nunley and Elliott have won a loyal following for their deft touch in describing the architecture, décor, cuisine, and ambiance at the many establishments they visit. A Taste of Maryland History covers 90 restaurants and includes 200 recipes adapted for home use, from local standards like Crab Cakes and Seafood Imperial to surprises like Hibiscus Tea Sorbet and Pot Pie of Wild Mushrooms. It compiles the best of what Maryland has to offer.

Paris is one of the most popular tourist destinations on earth, and for a very good reason; it's a fascinating and fun place to visit. Each year The City of Light greets close to 30 million foreign tourists, and most of them are headed for a select list of the exact same places. As a result, the lines to get into the most popular museums are long, and once inside it can get unbelievably crowded. Not only that, but the most visited parks, sites, and restaurants - along with the streets around them - are simply crammed with foreign tourists these days. And while these are still must see locations, the fact is that the crush of humanity can become a bit overwhelming at times. This little book is a guide to some great spots and experiences - all within Paris - that will get you away from the multitude of tourists, and give you a little breathing space to enjoy more of this great city - and enhance your organic contact with a Paris many tourists never see.

The book is for those who love travel, boating, adventure, Europe, history or dogs, or all of the above. The eight-summer adventure meanders through the Mediterranean, from Spain, through France, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Turkey and North Cyprus, and describes the joys of visiting the ancient ports of the Mediterranean by sea. Enjoy the charms (and ridiculous problems) of Greek island ports, the peace of quiet nights at anchor in picturesque coves, and the raucous energy of the ultimate metropolitan seaport, Barcelona. Suffer through the traumas of unexpectedly rough seas and the recurring problems of breaking boat parts, especially toilets. Absorb ancient and medieval European history in a way not possible by land and find that, when approached from the sea, the most memorable towns are often ones you've never heard of. Fall in love with sweet Roka as she spends her Avanti summers meeting mozzarella buffalos and wandering donkeys, and vigilantly searching for rats (she found none) while she develops a growing fear of cats after several aggressive feline attacks. Discover the different perceptions of dogs in different countries - adoration and serial petting by dog-loving French and Italians and revulsion or merely a cold shoulder from cat-loving Greeks. This book chronicles an adventure both comfortable and reasonably priced, with days or weeks spent idling in colorful ports, exploring ancient towns and outdoor markets and eating at port-side restaurants. The practical advice is aimed at boaters who yearn for adventure and comfort without going broke. The chapter on costs explain how this idyllic life is within the reach of most budgets - you need only an adventurous soul and some practical know-how. You'll learn the best (and worst) countries for boating, the most colorful ports to visit, and where the winds and seas are most friendly. You'll learn details on how to plan a similar trip, including advice on buying a boat in Europe, dealing with sticky issue

HE KNOWS IF YOU'VE BEEN BAD OR GOOD. Picture-perfect Evergreen, California, nestled on the shores of Reindeer Lake in the snowy Sierras, is the perfect place for a no-strings holiday fling with a gorgeous Latin lover. Workaholic Kimberly Michaels didn't come to Evergreen only to enjoy herself, though; she's there to consummate a development deal in which her company will take over the town - whether the town wants it or not. Ricco Maza, whose sister owns the quaint B & B where Kim is staying, may be the hottest man she's ever met (and the only one who can persuade her to relax enough for an orgasm!) but if he discovers why Kim is in town, she'll soon be finding more coal and switches than kisses in her Christmas stocking. And as Kim's frosty winter nights steam up with her sexy Santa, she realizes she's going to have to make a choice. Is winning the deal truly the most important thing in life, or will this jaded cynic let Santa finally give her a little taste of Christmas magic?

Gianni's English is not good, but he wants to tell you his story in his own words and in his own inimitable way. Join him on his journey as he travels from being a young Italian cub to a fully fledged bear, going on holiday to far flung places with his overbearing Mama and sweet, long-suffering Papi and meeting - and mating - hot men in each destination. Gianni needs lots of love and he takes it wherever he finds it. After stumbling into his first encounter in Gran Canaria, Gianni never looks back. He realizes that often the kind of big, beefy man that he finds attractive finds him utterly irresistible too and he works his honey-pot to his advantage. This book is a reworking of my Gianni short stories into which I have injected a good deal more of hot man-loving, Gianni style. His is one of my favourite characters and I hope you enjoy reading about Gianni's sexual adventures as much I enjoyed writing about them.

Auntie F. came in announcing dramatically that Hitler is coming tomorrow, at which my father remarked that he would, now that he's just finished papering upstairs. At the outbreak of World War Two, May Smith was twenty-four. She lived in a small village near Derby with her parents, and taught at the local elementary school. The war brought many changes: evacuees arrived in the village; nights were broken by the wail of the siren as bombers flew overhead; the young men of May's circle donned khaki and disappeared to far-flung places to 'do their bit'. But a great deal remained the same: May still enjoyed tennis parties, holidays to Llandudno and going shopping for new outfits - coupons and funds permitting. And it was during these difficult times that May fell in love. These Wonderful Rumours! gives a unique and surprising insight into life on the Home Front. Through May Smith's observant, witty and sometimes acerbic diary, we gain a new understanding of how the people of Britain coped with the uncertainty, the heartbreak and the black comedy of life during wartime.

From the bestselling author of Jupiter's Travels and Dreaming of Jupiter comes an entertaining and inspiring new journey round Britain. Having crisscrossed the globe twice, Ted returns to the British Isles to rediscover the country of his youth. The result is a revealing portrait of modern Britain and a witty and affectionate journey back to the past, when Ted would hitchhike across the country visiting friends (and girlfriends). He returns to the site of his old school with its astonishing war time history and visits familiar haunts where he did his National Service and got his first job in newspapers. He also visits less-familiar places. Some inspire him (Winchester Cathedral). Others defeat him (a tax office in Nottingham). As he rolls through the Isles, he discovers that a great deal has changed: busier roads, bureaucracy and, worst of all, the dreaded 'SAT Nav'. But there is also much to celebrate and enjoy along the way. Packed with fascinating stories, extraordinary encounters and glorious depictions of the British countryside, Rolling through the Isles takes the reader on an unforgettable trip with a celebrated adventurer and writer.

The European Union is increasingly engaged in criminal justice. In cross-border criminal cases, the decision on which a state will commence investigations and bring cases to trial (choice of forum) is made after horizontal mutual consultation and/or with the help of European institutions, agencies, and networks. At present, there is no clear framework for choice of forum. Law enforcement agencies consequently enjoy a great deal of discretion. This may lead to negative conflicts of jurisdiction in which no Member State takes action. It may also adversely affect the principle of mutual recognition and facilitate forum shopping by defendants and/or state authorities. This book helps to define the interests at stake and to establish the legal parameters within which choice of forum should take place, thus contributing to the further development of this fascinating area of law.
